HELPFUL BUSINESS TIPS

A Guide to a Better, More Productive Work Environment

5 Easy Ways to Give Your Workspace a Makeover

Regardless of your career or industry, it can be a task to keep things fresh and interesting. In an effort to achieve this, many employers have invested both time and money in corporate seminars and trainings to boost motivation. Although this may seem like a logical solution, they fail to realize the importance of the day to day work environment. Grey monotonous cubicle walls and fluorescent lighting have become the norm for most offices, but who says it has to stay that way? Creating a clean, organized and creative work environment can put you at ease, and give you the inspiration you need to be more productive. Below are 5 ways to help:

  • Organize:  Go though all components of your workstation and discard files no longer needed. Create a naming convention and folder structure to organize digital files. Eliminate unwanted papers and create a personal touch by using creative patterned organizers.
  • Toss Old Nic-Nacs:  It’s a new day! It’s time to de-clutter your workspace and toss the paperweights, snow globes and mugs you have accumulated throughout the years to create a larger work environment and make room for new accessories.
  • Design:  Bring in your favorite plant and frame images or artwork once taped to the walls of your cubicle. Using picture frames not only protects photos of your loved ones, but provides a clean and polished look.
  • Set the Mood: Brighten up the space that you spend so many hours at a day. Color has a great impact on your mood, so spice up the grey walls of your office space by adding fabric caulk boards, framed textiles or color accented accessories.
  • Music: To block out office chatter, bring your iPod to work. Listening to music will not only block out unwanted noise allowing you to focus on the task at hand, but could also raise your heartbeat a little and keep you motivated.
