Besito

Besito

EO did not redesign the Besito website but rather made it easier for visitors to use and navigate, as well as minimize its loading time and provided basic Search Engine Optimization

Long Island's Premier Mexican Restaurant Besito, is an authentic Mexican restaurant, owned by veteran restauranteur John Tunney III, David Tunney and John Reiger who also own Honu Kitchen and Cocktails, New York's premiere small plate restaurant in Huntington, NY. John Tunney spent months journeying to Mexico to research all aspects of Mexican dining - from the cuisine and cocktails to the design and decor - all with the goal of creating the most culturally authentic Mexican restaurant Northeast has seen.

EO Design Group was first introduced to John Tunney when the opportunity arose to design the Veterans Rock website. Impressed with our work, we were commissioned to take over their existing restaurant websites to allow the capability to edit the web pages and better search engine optimization.

What EO did for Besito

BesitoWe enhanced Besito's current web site to allow for easier navigation, faster loading time and provide a more user-friendly experience.

The website was originally designed in a flash format, which although it can look appealing to the eye, it has many limitations, such as:

  • Flash makes web site slow to load. Depending on the complexity of the flash this could make a web site that could load in 1 or 2 seconds to take 10, 20, 45 seconds or more. From your personal experience you know that even 5 seconds is a long time to wait for a web site to load.

  • Flash limits the height of a web site. This is because flash is a movie. As such it has to have a specific height and width. This means that the content of the flash site has to be encapsulated within a specific height, which is very limiting to what you can add. Besito's new web site doesn't have this limitation anymore and it expands vertically as needed to fit the content of the page.

  • Flash doesn't allow visitors to bookmark specific pages on a web site. If they do, they will always end up in the home page, no matter what page they tried to bookmark.

  • Flash doesn't allow visitors to use the back and forward button. This is because technically there is only one page on the site that holds the flash movie. Even if a visitors is navigating the various links on the flash sites, they are still within the same page, making the browser's back and forward useless.
  • Flash makes it difficult  for search engines to review a site, thereby minimize the site's search engine exposure, which could in-turn mean loss of possible business.

  • Flash is expensive to update, compared to a text and image web site like EO's and Besito's modified web site.

  • Time consuming to maintain. What would take 5 minutes on a text and images web site, would take 10, 20, 30 minutes or more depending on what is being updated.

Of course flash does have it's benefits, and that is why we kept some flash as part of the home page, but notice how the flash is a component of the page, not the whole entire page. This allows the page to avoid all the problems previously outlined above.

All these changes made Besito's modified web site more user-friendly, easier to navigate and load faster, whileminimizing the cost to maintain the site.
